Life: Rebooted

Hello there? How are you?

I’m good – and very sorry for the massive gap in posts. I can’t believe it’s been three and half months and I hope once I’ve told you what I’ve been up to that you’ll forgive my long absence…

In the last 11 weeks I have:

1. Finally had all casts removed and resumed ‘normal’ activity (apparently this does not include running, skipping, lifting heavy boxes, doing the twist or wearing 5-inch heals).
2. Been to visit my church in Leeds, all of whom I miss greatly and was so excited to see! I’m not sure when I’ll get down there again but I hope it won’t be too far into 2011!
3. Given a presentation to the Mothers’ Union at my mum’s church about my time in Botswana.
4. Driven my car a couple of times (very short trips, but an achievement none the less).
5. Started work on a book about my year away, pulling from this blog, my photos, my ‘One Red Book’ diary and a journal I kept while I was out there.
6. Found a place to live in Edinburgh, moved in AND got a job!
7. Found a church too.
8. Made some new friends.
9. Identified a couple of business opportunities I may or may not pursue next year (research will commence once this post is written and I’ll tell more about it when I know more).
10. Found out about a local project launching next year which aims to help people facing repossession to stay in their homes and give them the financial space and other support to get back on their feet.

11 weeks isn’t really all that long when you’re trying to do all that! I’ve also made gallons of hearty, warming stew and expanded my warm sock collection dramatically! Oh – and I cut my hair.

So… the big white elephant of a question was always going to be, what would I do with my blog once I came home? And as I was pondering this it dawned on me that I now have friends on three continents, many of whom have never been to Edinburgh, and some of whom might like to learn more about it. It has also struck me over the last few weeks that I knew far more about Botswana when I went out there than I know about Scotland having just moved up here!

So I shall continue with this blog:

• adding bits about Botswana as I still have so much to share,
• sharing some of the cool and interesting things I learn about Scotland and its capital city, and
• writing about my forays into the world of self-employment and business start-up (assuming I deciding to take the plunge!).

So what d’you think? Any of that seem like something you’d like to read about?
